Train Celebrates 25 Years of Drops of Jupiter with a Hit-Filled Night at Truliant Amphitheater
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On a hot and humid summer evening, thousands of fans packed Truliant Amphitheater as Train brought its Drops of Jupiter: 25 Years in the Atmosphere Tour to town, joined by special guests Barenaked Ladies and Matt Nathanson.
Matt Nathanson kicked off the evening with his signature blend of heartfelt songwriting and humor, warming up the crowd before Canadian rock veterans Barenaked Ladies delivered an energetic set filled with fan favorites and plenty of laughs. By the time their performance ended, the anticipation for Train had reached a fever pitch.
As the house lights dimmed, fans pressed toward the stage, eagerly awaiting the moment the curtain would fall. The excitement was palpable as cheers echoed throughout the amphitheater.
When the curtain finally dropped, Train burst onto the stage opening with “She’s on Fire,” immediately igniting the crowd. Frontman Pat Monahan appeared dressed in all black, layered with a white short-sleeve shirt over his black T-shirt, giving him his signature casual yet stylish look. Without slowing down, the band rolled right into “50 Ways to Say Goodbye,” where the first blast of confetti cannons erupted over the audience, sending colorful confetti raining throughout the amphitheater. It was only the beginning, as confetti cannons continued to fire several times throughout the night, adding to the festive atmosphere and making the concert feel like one giant celebration.
One of the evening’s most entertaining moments came as fans tossed their cell phones onto the stage, hoping Monahan would pick them up, go live on their social media accounts, capture the excitement from Train’s point of view, and then toss the phones safely back into the crowd. The fun tradition drew huge cheers each time Monahan grabbed another phone, making several lucky fans part of the show.
Monahan’s charismatic stage presence was on full display throughout the night. He effortlessly worked every corner of the stage, interacting with fans, cracking jokes, and encouraging the audience to sing along while delivering the powerful vocals that have defined Train for more than two decades.
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the band’s landmark album Drops of Jupiter, the tour served as both a nostalgic trip through Train’s impressive catalog and a reminder of why the group remains one of pop-rock’s most enduring live acts.
The setlist featured hit after hit, including “Calling All Angels,” “Meet Virginia,” “If It’s Love,” “Drive By,” “Hey, Soul Sister,” and, of course, the Grammy-winning anthem “Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me).” Every song was met with enthusiastic singalongs, while dazzling lights and bursts of confetti kept the excitement high from beginning to end.
Despite temperatures remaining high well into the night, the energy inside Truliant Amphitheater never faded. Couples danced in the aisles, families sang together, and longtime fans celebrated the music that has been the soundtrack to their lives for the past 25 years.
Train’s polished musicianship, vibrant stage production, and Pat Monahan’s engaging personality made for an unforgettable evening. Between the hit songs, crowd interaction, flying confetti, and unforgettable fan moments, the Drops of Jupiter: 25 Years in the Atmosphere Tour proved why Train remains one of the best live pop-rock acts on the road today.
On one of the hottest nights of the summer, Train delivered exactly what concertgoers came for: a fun, uplifting, hit-filled performance that celebrated 25 years of unforgettable music and left fans smiling long after the final notes faded.
