August 3, 2025 · Charlotte, NC
AJR lit up the Queen City Saturday night with an unforgettable performance at PNC Music Pavilion, delivering a high-energy, emotionally charged show as part of their “Somewhere in the Sky” tour. The indie-pop trio brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan Met transformed the amphitheater into a visual and sonic wonderland, thrilling fans with chart-topping hits, clever visuals, and heartfelt storytelling.
The night kicked off with a stellar lineup of opening acts including Goth Babe, Cavetown, Valley, and Ryley Tate Wilson, each bringing their unique sound to warm up the crowd. From the first note, it was clear this wasn’t just a concert it was a celebration of alternative music and the creative spirit.
By the time AJR hit the stage around 8:45 PM, the amphitheater was buzzing with anticipation. Thousands of fans filled the seats and the expansive lawn, many decked out in AJR merch, LED bracelets, and hand-drawn signs.
AJR’s set opened with explosive energy, complete with synchronized lighting, giant LED screens, and animated visuals that mirrored the quirky, intelligent style of their music. They rolled through hits like “Bang!,” “Way Less Sad,” and “Burn the House Down” while weaving in newer tracks from their Somewhere in the Sky album.
Jack Met, the band’s charismatic frontman, kept the crowd engaged not just with vocals, but with storytelling, humor, and even a bit of dancing. Ryan handled multiple instruments with ease, and Adam grounded the performance with rock-solid rhythms and crowd connection.
More than just a party, AJR’s show tapped into real emotion. Songs like “Dear Winter” and “The Dumb Song” quieted the crowd and created powerful, intimate moments. Paired with visuals that told stories in motion like hand-drawn animations or live video montages the band proved they’re as much about heart as they are about hooks.
“We never imagined we’d be playing to this many people in Charlotte,” Jack said mid-show. “But here we are and this night is one we’ll never forget.”
The crowd roared in response, hands in the air, singing every word back to the stage.
From the seamless stage transitions to the immersive visual effects, the entire production was polished and purposeful. But what really stood out was the genuine connection between the band and the audience. AJR spoke directly to the fans throughout the night, making the massive venue feel surprisingly intimate.
Even after the final encore, the atmosphere lingered people didn’t rush to the exits. Instead, they stuck around, buzzing about what they’d just experienced.
