As I pulled up to Amos’, I new it was going to be a special night. The fans were lined up at the door and down the sidewalk. I had a feeling is was going to be a packed house, which it ended up sold out.
The opening bands The Shrine and Corrosion Of Conformity, did an excellent job getting the crowd wormed up and ready. With sound cranked up and all dialed in, the show was on. I think the club security was expecting the fans to get out of hand, it wasn’t that way at all. With the crowds getting wormed up from singing along and their necks loosened up, everyone was ready for a night of head banging with Clutch!
As Clutch the took stage, you could feel the energy completely flowing from the instruments, amps and drums right into the packed room of fans. I was amazed as I watch Neil Fallon (lead vocals) with his hands directing the crowd like a maestro directing a symphony. At times the fans were singing along so loud they drowned out the band.
Having been around since 1991, I was familiar with Clutch and their music, I had just received a copy of their new album the night before so really didn’t get a chance to listen to it all the way through. I will have a complete review of it later. Clutch played some of their new music mixed in with chart topping hits.
Over all, it was a stellar performance. The sound was clear, balanced and not over driven. Lead vocals were very powerful with complementary backing vocals, guitars and drums were hard hitting. It was full of energy with a loyal and passionate fan base and rocking live performance. I can see why there is a huge buzz about Clutch. Definitely put them on your list of must see bands.
